It all started when young Charles McCartney ran away from his family’s Iowa farm at 14. He wound up in New York, and was soon married to a Spanish knife-thrower 10 years his senior.

Charles McCartney was from Keokuk, Iowa, which is located about 15 miles from our farm. Maybe it’s something in the soil around here that gets goats under our skin.
